SEASON 2020 POSTPONED TILL FURTHER NOTICE

This is the report from the secretary:

I am sure that you will all be aware of the constantly changing advice we are receiving
from the government concerning the Corona virus pandemic. As a Committee we are trying
to second guess what might happen over the next few weeks or months. We know already
that there are restrictions now in force which impose social-distancing and self-isolation,
both of which would have an impact upon bowling, and that prohibiting people getting
together as a group to play is out of the question.
Information provided by the Nottingham Federation, the League of Country Bowling,
the Corson and the Ladies Trophy Leagues suggest that they consider that it may be
possible to delay the start of the bowling season until the end of July or the beginning
of August assuming that some of the restrictions will have been removed by then.
If this happens there would obviously have to be a change to fixtures and a possibility that
the bowls’ season be extended well into September. No competitions will be played
this year. Significantly Bowls England and the Federation National Body have cancelled
all their matches for the 2020 season. In general, we are not optimistic that the
restrictions on travel and social contact will be removed by August. Also, given the fact
that most of our members are of a certain age identified by government as needing
“special attenti on” , it seems highly likely that we may not be playing bowls at all this season.
Enquiries I have made with Ruddington Parish Council suggest that maintenance of the green is
dependent upon the availability of the groundsmen to continue working. However, if
through personal illness or the need to go into quarantine should a member of their families
contract the virus, the green could not be prepared and ready to be used during the
season. We know that the Federation will not be
accepting any subscriptions for the 2020 season and, having discussed the situation with Ian
Cook, our Treasurer, it has been decided that we will not be asking you to pay the usual
subscription to the Club for this season. We do however have to cover the cost of insurance
upon our buildings and equipment and for this reason we feel that a contribution of £5 per
member would be in order. Cheques made out to Ruddington Bowls Club should be paid to Ian in the same way that you would normally pay your
annual subscription. These are exceptional and depressing times but I
felt it necessary to explain as much as possible what seems to be happening. Rest assured that I
will let you have information concerning any relevant developments as they occur.
Brian
